All notaries are regulated by the Master of the Faculties of the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The Master is responsible for the qualification and regulation of notaries.

The Master makes the Qualification Rules, appoints the Qualifications Board, consults with the Qualifications Board and delegates some functions to the Qualifications Board.

The Master makes and enforces the Practice and Disciplinary Rules.

The Master supervises the award of the Faculty and the issue of annual practising certificates.  To check whether a member of The Notaries Society has a current practising certificate please look at the website www.facultyoffice.org.uk
